About Friendly Smiles & Our Services
Dr. Brandon Lee received his DMD from Boston University School of Dental Medicine in 2006. Returning home to Portland, Oregon, he started practicing general dentistry at a large corporate dental clinic. Being the only dentist at the clinic, Dr. Lee used his broad skill set to successfully treat patients who needed a variety of dental procedures such as root canals, crowns, fillings, extractions, dentures, and implants.
In 2008, Dr. Lee purchased a small private practice located on Hawthorne because he wanted to be in a diverse community. Dr. Lee values all people as unique and special, emphasizing the importance of relationships and communication. His dental aspiration is to listen to each patient’s needs and possible fears and then together develop a treatment plan that is best for that patient.
Over the years, he continues to stay up-to-date on advances in dentistry through continuing education. He also participates in study groups where he learns and practices new procedures that his patients could benefit from.
Dr. Lee’s favorite aspect of dentistry is the relationships that are established over time. His goal is to be a guide for patients to achieve a healthy mouth. Outside of the office, Dr. Lee enjoys spending time with his wife and three boys, running, riding, smoking meats, raising chickens, and taking on new projects around the house.
Dr. Deanna Lee graduated from the Boston University School of dental medicine in 2007 and has been practicing general dentistry ever since. She barely knew where Portland Oregon was until she met her husband Dr. Brandon Lee in school who is native to Oregon and moved to Portland after they got married shortly after graduation. Originally from South Korea and having lived in Southern California many years until she went to college and dental school in Boston, there was an initial struggle in getting used to the rain (lots of rain!!), but she found the beauty of the northwest and soon fell in love with what Portland had to offer. Now she is well settled in the area with her three little children and her husband.
She has been practicing dentistry in the Portland area well over ten years, and she recently joined her husband in Hawthorne area after selling her private practice in NE Portland. They welcomed their third child recently and she wanted more time invested in their children. She enjoys all aspects of general dentistry and believes in partnering with the patients in achieving their oral health. She values lasting relationships with every one of her patients and believes that the best care is possible from that trusting relationship. She is also a firm believer of preventative dentistry in which she can guide her patients before their oral health issues become overwhelming.
Outside of dentistry, she loves spending most of her time with her three little boys, even though at the moment it’s all about changing diapers and potty training and simple math!
Dr. Dylan Booth grew up in the suburbs of Northern California with his high school sweetheart and now fiancee, Allison. After obtaining his DDS degree from the UCLA School of Dentistry, Dr. Booth spent time working at private and corporate offices in the Los Angeles area. Frustrated by the lack of personal care seen in offices in the area, he decided to move to New York City, accepting a position at a highly regarded residency program at Bellevue Hospital, one of the oldest and most storied hospitals in the country. During the residency, Dr. Booth received advanced dental training in all areas of dentistry including implants, root canals, crowns, fillings, and dentures.
Dr. Booth continues to advance his skills and knowledge in order to provide the best care for all his patients by dedicating himself to continuing education. In 2019, he received his fellowship in the International Congress of Oral Implantologists (FICOI), awarded to dentists who have taken over 100 hours of dental implant courses and completed 20 implant patient cases. In 2021, Dr. Booth is to receive his fellowship in the Academy of General Dentists (FAGD), awarded to dentists who have completed over 500 hours of education courses and passed a rigorous examination.
Dr. Booth and Allison fell in love with the Portland area while visiting on vacation. They love the close ties to nature around the city and the proximity of all kinds of outdoor activities. They also appreciate the feel of the local communities and are proud to now call Portland home. In his free time, Dr. Booth enjoys traveling, skateboarding, snowboarding, and watching football and hockey.

Preventive dental care is all the things you do (or should do) to take care of your teeth and gums: brushing, flossing, eating a healthy diet, and seeing your dentist regularly to help avoid dental disease.
The ADA recommends the following steps for good dental health:
– Brush your teeth twice a day with an ADA-accepted fluoride toothpaste.
– Replace your toothbrush every three or four months, or sooner if the bristles are frayed.
– Clean between teeth daily with floss or an interdental cleaner.
– Eat a balanced diet, and limit soft drinks and between-meal snacks.
– Visit your dentist regularly for professional cleanings and oral exams.
Root canal treatment is necessary when the pulp (soft tissue inside your teeth containing blood vessels, nerves and connective tissue) becomes inflamed or diseased. During root canal treatment, your dentist or endodontist (a dentist who specializes in treating the insides of teeth) removes the diseased pulp. The pulp chamber and root canal(s) of the tooth are then cleaned and sealed. If the infected pulp is not removed, pain and swelling can result, and your tooth may have to be removed.
Causes of an infected pulp could include:
– A deep cavity
– Repeated dental procedures
– A cracked or broken tooth
– Injury to the tooth (even if there’s not a visible crack or chip)
– If you continue to care for your teeth and gums your restored tooth could last a lifetime. However, regular checkups are necessary; a tooth without its nerve can still develop cavities or gum disease. Most of the time, a root canal is a relatively simple procedure with little or no discomfort involving one to three visits. Best of all, it can save your tooth and your smile.
An extraction means to have a tooth removed, usually because of disease, trauma or crowding.
If you need an extraction, your dentist will first numb the area to lessen any discomfort. After the extraction, your dentist will advise you of what post extraction regimen to follow. In most cases a small amount of bleeding is normal. Your mouth will slowly fill in the bone where the tooth root was through the formation of a blood clot.
Here are some tips to follow to make recovery easier:
– Avoid anything that might prevent normal healing.
– Don’t smoke or rinse your mouth vigorously.
– Avoid drinking through a straw for 24 hours.
– Follow the diet your dentist suggests.
For the first few days, if you must rinse, rinse your mouth gently. If you experience swelling, apply a cold cloth or an ice bag and call your dentist right away. Ask your dentist about pain medication. You can brush and floss the other teeth as usual. But don’t clean the teeth next to where the tooth was removed.
Remember, when having an extraction, today’s modern procedures and follow up care (as recommended by your dentist) are there for your benefit and comfort.
If you are self-conscious because you have missing teeth, wear dentures that are uncomfortable or don’t want to have good tooth structure removed to make a bridge, talk to your dentist to see if dental implants are an option for you.
Dental implants are a popular and effective way to replace missing teeth and are designed to blend in with your other teeth. They are an excellent long-term option for restoring your smile. In fact, the development and use of implants is one of the biggest advances in dentistry in the past 40 years. Dental implants are made up of titanium and other materials that are compatible with the human body. They are posts that are surgically placed in the upper or lower jaw, where they function as a sturdy anchor for replacement teeth.
